The Allentown Art Museum is proud to launch Sensory Saturdays, a program designed to offer accessible art experiences for individuals with unique needs and abilities. On the second Saturday of each month we will open the Museum early, at 10 a.m., and modify our galleries to make exploration easier for visitors who benefit from reduced sensory input. Modifications including dimming lights, muting audio and video displays, and adding access to calm space in the Rodale Classroom.
In addition to dedicated time to explore the galleries, the Museum will also host sensory-friendly artmaking in the Rodale Classroom. Starting at 10 a.m., visitors can engage with hands-on artmaking projects or open creative play with a variety of materials.

Our new ALL ACCESSible program provides a casual yet in-depth look at the unique spaces and visual-art that make up The Banana Factory. The gallery spaces will be open for a no-cost, semi-guided tour. Hands-on experiences will provide opportunities for anyone that benefits from a sensory friendly approach
The ALL ACCESSible tours provide attendees access to our Sensory Art/ Living Art exhibition and Touch Collection. This artwork was commissioned specifically for individuals that benefit from a hands-on approach to experiencing art. Multiple pieces by Fiber artist Mallory Zondag will be featured and they are meant to be touched, worn, and manipulated. Participants are welcome to relax and explore this space at their leisure.
Note: I have been told that the Sensory Space is open to individuals at any time as long as the Banana Factory is open
A few times throughout the year they hold Sensory Friendly nights. None are scheduled at this time but I would recommend following them on Facebook as that is usually where I see these nights posted first

The Sensory Friendly Family Film Series is specifically designed for children and adults living with autism. This program allows everyone to experience the joy of seeing their favorite movies on the big screen. As part of the film screenings, talking and walking are permitted, and stimming (self-regulation behavior) is encouraged. The theater’s house lights are dimmed but remain on, while the film volume is lowered and previews are eliminated, in an effort to provide a comfortable viewing experience for attendees. Additionally, families with special dietary needs are allowed to bring food from home.
