LONG BEACH ISLAND, NJ - A FAVORITE OF LEHIGH VALLEY WITH LIT
WHAT IS LBI?
Long Beach Island (or LBI) is an island located approximately 2.5 hours from the Lehigh Valley area. The skinny island stretches roughly 18 miles long.
The island is a mix of those who live on the island year round and vacation home rentals. There are not too many hotels or motels on the island, it is very residential compared to other beaches.
You can easily walk from the beach to the bayside in a matter of minutes as the island isn’t very wide. We have watched the sun rise over the ocean and then set at night over the bay.
TIPS
Stop for groceries before getting on the island. There are multiple shopping centers with everything from Target to Walmart!
On the island there is an Acme grocery store but the prices are definitely higher!
The farther south you stay from the causeway the less busy it tends to be. Most traffic / higher populated areas will be when you first get on the island. We usually stay around Beach Haven. This area is close to Bay Village and Fantasy Island
As a preteen and teenager my siblings and I would ride our bikes all over the island. There are bike lanes on the side streets. It’s a flat island so not difficult to travel. Bring your own bikes or there’s plenty of places to rent one during your stay

Located in Beach Haven, this is the activity hub for the island.
And it has free parking!

Bay Village is a collection of small shops. Grab some souvenirs, a cup of coffee, and make a stop at the candy shop for an elephant ear! OH and you MUST stop for some fudge.
Fantasy Island is right next door. This is a small amusement park. It also has an indoor arcade if you need a rainy day activity.
There's also Thundering Surf Waterpark if you need some more thrills!
Closer to the bay there is a small playground!

Located on the bay side of the island, this park may have live music in addition to the playground. It also has a fenced in area of the bay for swimming if the ocean waves aren’t your thing. There is a lifeguard on duty and beach badges are required.

Located at the top of Long Beach Island, this historic lighthouse is a must visit for us for every trip!
For a small fee you can climb to the top and receive a certificate stating you climbed "Old Barney."
There is a gift shop/museum and a short nature trail here as well.
If you enjoy fishing, the pier is a local favorite spot to do so!

Located only five minutes [drive] from the lighthouse this is an easy stop!
The playground is fenced in and located off the main roads.
